Meet our Board of Directors
Dr. Evelyn Wesley career as an educator spans more than 40 years. This includes serving as a teacher, counselor, work experience coordinator, assistant principal and middle school principal in the Oakland Unified School District. As an administrator at the San Mateo and Alameda County Office of Education, she provided leadership for the development of partnership programs that combined the resources of businesses, unions, governmental agencies, and educational systems to meet the educational needs of K-12, community college, and university students. Dr Wesley also served as the Vice President of Student Services at San Jose City College and administered workforce and economic development programs for Peralta Community College District before becoming President of Merritt College. She has the honor and distinction of being the only Merritt College graduate to serve as President of the College.
Since Retiring, Dr. Wesley has chaired the National Leadership Training Academy for Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. She is currently the co-chair of the board of trustees for FACES of the East Bay and a board member of the African American Regional Educational Alliance (AAREA). In these roles she has worked to build the capacity of school districts to improve the quality of instruction and educational experiences of African American students. Evelyn has recently Stepped down from her position as a consultant and mentor for the California State University Chancellor’s Office.
Dr. Wesley’s most important and rewarding roles are family centered. She enjoys being “MeMe” to her grandchildren and is still “honeymooning” even though she and her husband Jimmie have been married 53 years. Evelyn uses her family motto, “Take what you have and make what you want” as the foundation for offering leadership training and personal development workshops that motivate and inspire participants to achieve their highest potential.
Georgia Eagles, RScP has been a Licensed Practitioner for 15 years, dedicating her practice to service. Acknowledging the presence of God in all creations. Gloria Eagles, RScP is currently available to see clients.
Rev Dr. Ona Afrae brings a wealth of experience and a deep commitment to community service. Holding a Master’s and Doctorate of Religious Studies from Emerson Theological Institute, Rev. Ona is a licensed minister recognized by both Emerson and the Centers for Spiritual Living. As the Spiritual Leader of Abundant Blessings, her nonprofit organization, Rev. Ona focuses her efforts on addressing the pressing issue of homelessness by spearheading initiatives to feed the unhoused communities in Alameda County.
Prior to being a Board Member with FACES of the East Bay, Rev. Ona’s professional journey was marked by a steadfast commitment to social justice and community empowerment. She served as a Community Activist, a Re-Entry Specialist with Alameda College, a Crisis Counselor with Bay Area Women Against Rape, and a Director of Programs for Volunteers In Service To America and AmeriCorps in partnership with the National Corporation for Service. Rev. Ona’s life is a testament to her belief in the transformative power of prayer and her unwavering dedication to serving the needs of the community.
Rev Mutima Imani is a Social Justice Visionary, Master Trainer and Facilitator working to Heal the Heart of Humanity by providing 21st Century Tools for Personal/Professional Development and Transformation.
Imani is a Global Diversity Specialist who understands and inspires people to think locally while planning globally. Highly skilled at bringing diverse groups together to resolve conflicts, Imani works with people conducting Civic Leadership Training and Restorative Justice Circles and is a Work That Reconnects Facilitator.
Imani has a Master’s Degree in Public Administration with an emphasis in Phenomenology; Imani is passionate about how all things work together and what humans can learn from the natural world.
Lynne Daniels has spent most of her career that spans over 40 years working with non-profit organizations. Lynne taught Human Development at Bay Area colleges, including Merritt, Chabot and Contra Costa in addition to developing community – based classes. She worked as a Trainer/Consultant for organizations such as Kaiser Permanente, SIPS Consults and Oakland Unified School district where she created and facilitated diversity, change management and leadership development content.
Lynne has a Master of Science degree in Child Development with a specialization in working with children in hospital and healthcare settings. She is the former chair of the Centers for Spiritual Living Diversity Equity and Inclusion Committee and an active member of East Bay Church of Religious Science . She is also the Co Chair of FACES of the East Bay. Lynne is the owner of SEON – seeing beyond, a doula and consultant practice with a focus on postpartum mother and child health. Lynne is passionate about live music, gardening and traveling.
Dr Cynthia Chang, RSCP is a practitioner for over 18 years and joined FACES board this year as Secretary. Dr Cynthia loves working with creative and innovative services to meet the needs of our community.
“My joy is to play in dirt and create a sustainable garden. I love teaching cooking using the bountiful vegetables, fruits, condiments and spices provided in partnership with Alameda Food Bank.
Marjorie Prevost Ford has been a member of the East Bay Church of Religious Science for approximately 30 years. Over the years, she has taken all the classes offered at the church and many workshops.
She enjoys reading, dancing, traveling and volunteering. Serving her community and giving back is very important to her. That’s why she is a volunteer with East Bay’s FACES, Food Angels program. It brings her joy. Marjorie has a B.A. degree and an M.A. degree in Educational Administration. She is the proud parent of two adult children.
Gloria J. Lockett, is the co-founder and Executive Director of the California Prostitutes Education Project (CAL-PEP). CAL-PEP is a minority HIV prevention organization whose mission is to provide comprehensive health education, HIV/STD prevention, case management, peer and treatment advocacy to people who are living with and affected by HIV/AIDS. A pioneer and leader in the work of HIV prevention, she has worked tirelessly toward increasing knowledge and providing services in the communities hit hardest by the epidemic, especially African American and other people of color, as well as advocating for the rights of prostitutes, substance users, and many other socio-economically disenfranchised groups.
Under Ms. Lockett’s leadership, CAL-PEP has become a fighting force in community based HIV/AIDS/STD prevention services since it’s inception in 1984. As Executive Director, Ms. Lockett oversees and directs the vision of the organization to provide services to populations at highest risk of contracting HIV. She has also developed ethnographic research capacity of CAL-PEP’s community based programs. She has served as a past Executive Director of COYOTE (Call Off Your Old Tired Ethics) and as Outreach Coordinator for Project AWARE, both advocacy groups for sex workers.
Ms. Lockett is an internationally recognized expert on using street outreach to bring prevention education into communities at highest risk. She has been a featured speaker and facilitator at the International AIDS Conferences in France and Canada, and has represented CAL-PEP’s field work methodology at a number of other conferences, including “High Risk Women and AIDS” at the University of Amsterdam, Holland, and the Conference of Congressional Representatives and Planners in Yokohama, Japan. She has spoken in conferences around the country about prostitutes’ right and women’s health care, and has presented at Harvard University, University of California, Santa Cruz, and Clark University in Oregon. She has also made appearances on such television programs as “60 Minutes”, “Donahue”, “The Today Show”, “20/20”, and “BET – Black Entertainment Television”, in order to call national awareness to the increasing need for culturally specific HIV services available to prostitutes, substance users, women and youth.
Jimmie Wesley is a well-known Bay Area sales professional who began attending East Bay during the early 90’s. He spent 41 years in the beverage and liquor industry honing his skills in sales, marketing, merchandising and product promotion. He uses his knowledge and skills to help FACES make a positive difference in the lives of the families and individuals it serves.
